Tenement flat in the heart of Edinburgh
Introduction
I am an academic and my husband Andy is a sign language interpreter. Our daughter Tilda is 16. We love to travel but always feel bad at leaving our rag doll cat. Casper is 5 years old & he was re-homed with us in March 2023 (our previous cat Lupin sadly passed away in October 2021). He can be a bit shy around new people initially but he does warm up and he loves people & company so he appreciates being able to stay at home and having people coming to hang out with him while we’re away!

Our roomy Victorian tenement flat is on the 1st floor near the city centre of Edinburgh, with high ceilings, large windows and lots of light. There are two bathrooms - one with bath & shower and the other with a walk-in shower & laundry cupboard with washing machine and dryer. We love to entertain & spend a lot of time as a family in our kitchen, so our kitchen is equipped with a 4-seater dining table (which easily expands to seat 6-8) and plenty of cooking implements and a dishwasher! We have a shared garden behind our flat that you are welcome to use, but also we are very close to two large park areas - The Links and The Meadows, both of which are just a few minutes walk away. On sunny days in Edinburgh people tend to buy disposable barbecues and sit on The Links or The Meadows and have picnics. City and country converge at our flat - as we are based in the cute Marchmont village, a stone's throw from funky shops and cafes in Bruntsfield, 10 minute bus ride from Princes Street and all the shops, and only a 20 minute walk to Edinburgh Castle & the Royal Mile through the Meadows. For people who like to get out and walk/ climb, Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Cragg and Blackford Hill are all close by. Or the Pentland Hills are a 15 minute drive away. A short bus ride (approx 30 mins) takes you to Portobello Beach if you feel more adventurous about paddling in Scottish weather! It has a great cafe and beach promenade though for sunny days. There is an old Victorian Baths swimming pool at the end of our street (5 minute walk - currently being renovated but should be open soon) and a corner shop less than 1 minute away that has fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, alcohol, newspapers and everything else you could need. We don't have a car, but the bus and tram network is excellent, and we tend to walk everywhere. Basically our place is the perfect location for a get-away in Edinburgh! Sitters will have their own bedroom at the front of the flat, with either a single or combined double (from trundle) depending on if 1 or 2 people staying.
Show more...Responsibilities
Primarily feeding our 5-year old ragdoll cat Casper a couple of times a day (dry food only that we will provide). He loves people & company so appreciate it if you can hang out with Casper as much as you can - as he doesn't like to be left too long on his own. He does like to sit on your lap & likes likes to sleep in with people if possible. Also, if you could water the house plants once every 7-10 days subject to need.

I really enjoyed sitting for Casper. He has a lovely nature and got comfortable with us quite quickly. He likes play and cuddles equally and we soon developed an easy rapport. He would keepme company in the big bright kitchen

Had a great time caring for Jemina and Andy's very sweet and mild-mannered cat for the weekend. The job was easy, just keeping him company and keeping track of the litter boxes. The flat is beautiful, just a 20-min walk from the city, through the green and lively Meadows, the perfect place to explore the city as well. Got all the instructions I needed from this very friendly couple - would go back anytime!

One of my favorite sits with beautiful Casper. I was made very welcome and had a lovely, chilled stay with Casper in a lovely, immaculate home. Casper loved his games with his beloved pipe cleaners and cosied up to me very quickly. Communication was excellent with Jemina. I would love to come back

I can't recommend this house sit strongly enough. Lovely, welcoming family in a beautiful home. Casper was just gorgeous. He took a little time to feel comfortable but once he settled, we had a great time and he snuggled up in my bed at night. It was lovely to come home to find him waiting at the door. The location of this sit is perfect for accessing a range of sights. It's an easy walk to the Royal Mile with some great pubs along the way, should you need a stop! Lots of amenities and shops nearby. Definitely a five star sit!
